The Roasting Party - Costa Rica Jaguar Honey

It's been a long while since I've blogged about The Roasting Party (over a year) and I'd like to think looking back that review, -wasn't- my greatest, it was the first ever coffee review I did, my format for the post was all over the place and I'd like to think that I have slightly improved over the last year and a bit. So we're back with another good'un from TRP

Way back in the day when I worked for Coffee Lab, they were supplied by The Roasting Party, and I fell in LOVE, like actual real, true love with one of their single origins, that single origin being Costa Rica Jaguar Honey. I wasn't even the only one in the shop that felt this way, it was delicious.
So when I subtly mentioned to my boyfriend in December that I saw it was stocked on their website, (it was not subtle at all) he ever so kindly "surprised" me with it on Christmas Day.

Costa Rica Jaguar Honey
Full Body, Moderate Acidity, Brown Sugar, Chocolatey

Tasting Notes - Orange, Yellow Peach, Milk Chocolate, Almond

Recently I've been tracking my recipes on a coffee app called "Coppee" - I will be doing a blog post about some great coffee apps soon.

For this particular recipe through V60, I used 23g of a medium course grind, 320g of water at 85 degrees, and brewed it for 3 minutes and 5 seconds.

(we're going to skip past the fact I'm using 01 filters in an 02 V60)

Whilst brewing, it had a super prominent crema, and really light fruity aromas.

Exact Recipe -
Bloom 30 seconds, with continuous stirring
10 second pouring, making water up to 150ml (g)
Wait until 1 minute, 15 second, and pour water until 275ml (g)
At 2 minutes, 15 seconds, pour the remaining water to 320ml (g)
Remove V60 at 3 minutes and 5 seconds
Leave to cool for 3 minutes

My Taste Notes -

Super syrup-y and sugar like, with a super light mouthfeel
Light fruity notes, smooth with little acidity.
Moderate acidity tones as cooled, with a lingering chocolate after taste.
Super delicious fruity and chocolatey notes.

I've definitely re-found my love for Jaguar Honey, and if you ever get the chance to get any coffee from The Roasting Party, lean towards this one, you definitely wont regret it.

November Favourites 2018

Another month has passed us by, and we're now well on the way to Christmas (woohooooo!!!)
If you missed my coffee and a chat post (read that here) I said how I wanted to start doing more lifestyle posts, including monthly favourites.

So without further or do, lets get into my very first favourites blogpost, including everything I have been absolutely loving through November.

V60's

- v60's are something I have a love/hate relationship with, and ever since buying my aeropress earlier this year, the v60 took an immediate back seat.
But since working at a place that we do v60's on a daily, I've definitely been loving them again, playing around with recipes, and loving the taste profiles coming from the coffees.

Heist Chocolate Handies

- I discovered these a few months back because of both Fi + Casey over at Girls Who Grind Coffee and James from Untold Coffee and I never originally planned to buy them as I don't tend to reach for hot chocolate at home, but the lovely James sent me a sample with box number 4 of the coffee club, and I was hooked.
You only need about 4-6 little handies to make a hot chocolate, depending on your taste preference, but either way, it comes out so creamy, and so, so yummy, and especially since it's been getting a bit colder I've been loving tucking up in bed with a hot water bottle, hot chocolate and a book

Candles

- I have a weird little obsession with candles at the moment, and I'm not really sure where it has come from. I don't know if it's just this time of year or what, I just freaking love candles.
Ones that I am particularly loving at the moment are:
Christmas Eve by Yankee Candle
Christmas Tree by Wickford & Co
I've also been loving all the mini Wickford & Co candles, and I think I have them in every scent they could ever come in

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

- I actually picked up this book in a charity shop for £1.25, I didn't originally plan on reading it so soon, because I'm in the middle of another book still, but I took it with me to a hospital appointment that ended up being around 6 hours, and I'm glad I took it. Anyone who is struggling with "being you" I highly, highly recommend this book. It's informative, funny, witty and such an amazing read, and I'm actually going to read it again, just so I can highlight some of the quotes and quotations she uses in the book.

Polariod Wall

- I recently redecorated my room, it used to be pastel pink, and it was just very dated and I found it to not really feel like my room, so I gave it a bit of a make-over, painted the walls white, and became absolute white trash with a polariod wall. I am in LOVE with this wall, and I do plan on expanding it quite a bit (maybe when I make more friends lol)
It's so nice just to wake up and look over at all the photos and memories that are now up on my wall (probably forever, they stick like crazy)

Girls Who Grind Coffee - El Salvador Honey Processed

- Although I loved all 3 of the El Salvador coffees in the Girls Who Grind Triptych, the honey processed one really stood out for me flavour wise, before this year I don't think I'd properly tried a honey processed coffee, and it quickly has become my favourite coffee to try and source to try out.
I did an entire blog post on this coffee if you want a more in depth description including the taste profiles, read here

Untold Coffee - Jeremy Abadi, Colombia

- Again this is a coffee that has truly blown me away with the taste profile and the amount of recipes it works with, I'm also in belief that there are only a few bags left for sale on Untold right now - there will be a link below to that

Girls Who Grind Coffee - Dr Congo - Coffee Review

Now it is definitely no secret that I love the girls over at GWGC, they are babes, and whenever they release something new, whether it be stickers, mugs, coffee, I am there.

Recently they released 4(!!!) (that's right, 4!!) different coffees, great for me, not so great for my ever declining bank balance, but I asked them which two they recommended, and they came back to say the Congo + Nicaraguan, so naturally I ordered both, and so kindly they also popped in a bag of the Colombian, which I am so so so grateful for!!!

Today I am writing a review about the absolutely wonderful, Dr Congo

Since receiving it, being the first one I tried out of the three, I haven't even tried the others yet, because this one is so so so delicious!! I'm actually very close to the bottom of the bag, which after pay day, I will be ordering some more (or possibly 3 bags to make sure I have it at all times)

I tried it through V60 and Aeropress, I really couldn't say which I liked more, the V60 gave it a more fruitier taste, where the immersion from the Aeropress gave it a more tangy taste, both of which I am loving.

As usual the girls offer whole beans, as well as also offering pre-ground coffee for pourovers, french press and aeropress, if you don't have a grinder of your own at home.

The beans: DR Congo, Idjwi Island, Lake Kivu
Variety:  Bourbon
Process: Washed
Taste Notes: Milk Chocolate, Floral, Tangy Marmalade, R.E.S.P.E.C.T
Producer: Rebuild Women's Hope

V60

The recipe I used to brew:

Grind: Medium Fine
Grams: 19g
Water: 300ml
Time: 3 Minutes, 25 Seconds
Bloom: 55g, 28 Seconds

Tasting Notes (My brew):
Aroma: Floral-y aromas
Acidity: Tangy with a smooth + clean finish
Body: Light on the tongue, very smooth and crisp
Flavour: Chocolatey, tangy with floral notes, and a smooth clean finish

Aeropress

The recipe I used to brew:

Grind: Slightly Finer Grind
Grams: 14g
Bloom: 30 Seconds
Time: 2 Minutes 35 Seconds
Push: 30 Seconds

Tasting Notes (My brew):
Aroma: Floral aromas with spicy tones
Acidity: Tangy and crisp
Body: Light floral after taste, left on tongue
Flavour: Better immersion, more chocolatey, tangy.

With both of the brews I tried, I really couldn't give an answer if you asked me which one to brew it through, because either way you're going to get a banging cup of coffee.
I cant wait to try the other two coffees because through no doubt they're going to be amazing too.

Yarer Forest Ethiopian - Beanpress Coffee Co - Coffee Review

Christmas 2017 I was ever so kindly gifted a lot of coffee, and one of the brands I knew I was getting (as my mother seemed to call me to ask me what was the difference between the espresso blend beans and the single origin) was Beanpress Coffee Co
I have tried numerous amounts of single origin coffee's from this company, and this one, definitely did not disappoint, I'd even go to say that it's the best one I've tried from beanpress.

I received a 100g bag, enough for quite a few coffees which makes me happy that I get to try different brew methods with this particular bean.

The only thing that I think beanpress (or the shops that sell them) could improve on, is to put more information on the packaging, as you can see if came in a little see through bag, with very minimal details about the coffee, and no date on when it was roasted. But you cant have it all.

The Beans: Yarer Forest Ethiopian
Variety: Unknown
Process: Natural
Taste Notes (From The Bag): Rich Gingerbread, Spicy/Floral

The Recipe I Used To Brew

Grind: Medium Fine
Grams: 17G
Water: 250ML at 85 Degrees
Time: 2 Minutes 45 Seconds
Bloom: 75G, 25 Seconds

(We'll ignore how awkward these cups are to hold with their TINY HANDLE)

Tasting Notes, My Brew:
Aroma: Floral-y aromas,
Acidity: Low acidity, smooth, and lingered
Body: Full and heavy bodied coffee, flavours lingered on the tongue
Flavour: Floral and spicy flavour notes

Have you tried any coffee's from beanpress? If so what did you think?
