Dog and Hat Coffee Subscription Box 5

Now were actually starting to get somewhere with catching up on blog posts, I thought we'd go back to yet another fantastic box from Dog and Hat!

This is the September Box which featured MOK and Gentlemen Barista - and you might recognise Gentlemen Barista from a One Click Box a good few months back, and again sneak peak - it didn't disappoint.

MOK Speciality Coffee

MOK is a micro coffee roastery from Belgium, always aiming for the very best roasting and brewing to bring you the finest coffee experience.
The coffee is roasted on a Giesen W15, which means they roast in small batches of 10-15kg. Roasting in such small volumes allows Jens (The founder of MOK) to fully control the roasting process, making sure that the tasting profile of the bean is just right. Thanks to a close relationship with coffee traders, they always know the origin of their coffee beans.
Jens Crabbé started the company when he had just turned 22, the idea of creating his own product and making it as good as possible was something that really fed his ambition and character as a person.

Gentlemen Baristas

Gentlemen Baristas was founded because we were tired of people telling us what we can or can't drink. Tired of poor customer service and people who don't see to care about the coffee or the customers. So we founded GBs as our response.
We have a tagline. We thought it was important. Manners are key - they're important, they're neglected, and people do care about them. They go to the core of our identity; we are upright and correct and strive to evoke the best of a period gone by, it is "Well-Mannered Coffee"

Beans Coffee Club Box 1

What's this? A new subscription coffee service?
I've followed Beans Coffee Club on Instagram for a while now and was intrigued about them as a company and what they do.

Funnily enough in the same week we had both emailed each other asking if we wanted to work together on something, surprisingly the answer was yes. So here is to working with another fantastic company.

So who are Beans Coffee Club?

Beans is operated by a small team of 5 people who all love coffee - we have come together because we saw an opportunity to make speciality coffee more accessible for people. Our experiences were that it wasn't easy to find new coffee roasters and when we did, it wasn't easy to know which beans we were going to enjoy - so Beans was born.
We have many years of experience within the coffee industry but our main passion has always been discovering and enjoying new coffees. Although we now have a great working relationships with some of the best coffee roasters in the country. We are still searching for and discovering new coffee roasters all the time. We are tasting new coffees every day and the ones we love will make it into our subscription offerings in the future.

Our mission is to make it easy to explore the world of speciality coffee, to discover new amazing coffee roasters and coffees and help brew the world's best coffee at home. Why take a coffee subscription with one roaster when you can have a subscription which features them all?

Keep it personal
Tell us your preferences - we feature over 150 offees from 15 of the countries best roasters - to make it easy to find coffees you'll love we match you based on your personal preferences. Simply answer a few questions to create your own bespoke subscription.
Choose your pricing - Each coffee can be a different price so to keep things simple we created two different pricing tiers - standard at £7.99 and exclusive at £9.99. Standard coffees are fantastic and versatile, featuring blends which will be liked by most. Exclusive tier coffees are a little rarer and more complex for people feeling a little more adventurous
Select your frequency - Simply choose how often you would like to receive a new coffee - weekly, fortnightly or monthly - depending on how much coffee you drink. We'll do the rest.

You'll always know when your box has arrived by the distinct sticker, and it was a super exciting day when my first box arrived.

For my first box I got sent this super delicious Kenyan from Quarter Horse

The beans
Kayoni Microlot - Kenya
Varietal - SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11, K7, Baitan
Process - Washed
Region - Kiambu
Taste Notes - Apricot, Cane Sugar Sweetness, Floral Finish

Brew time

V60 Brew
18g of Coffee
275ml of Water
3 Minute Total Brew Time
40ml Bloom, 30 Seconds, 10 Second Agitation

This brew came out super sweet and syrup-y, lots of sweet floral aromas and a smooth and balanced acidity.

Every brew that I made from this bag had very similar taste notes, which is always a bonus, I cant wait to brew this through aeropress as well, I think it will really bring out those more prominent apricot flavours.

The Coffee Life Turns 2

Honestly, where has the time gone?

I remember starting this blog and being in a really dark place, not knowing what I wanted from this blog and just needed somewhere to escape real life. It's been a place I can freely write whatever I want whilst not caring who reads it.

It's become more than just a hobby for me, it's become a safe place, and a community builder, and I've had so many incredible opportunities and met so many incredible people through this little space on the internet.

I am thankful for every single person who takes the time to read anything I write on this blog, whether you're a regular reader or just scatter reads my posts every now and again. I am beyond thankful.

I am definitely number 1, and as much as I am wanting to put up my Christmas tree and decorate my flat with ALL of the decorations. Preparing for Christmas is the best I can bring myself to do right now (without too much judgement from other people)

Last year I discovered the beauty and wonders of Coffee Advent Calendars, and what better way to kick off the Christmas cheer than to get one?!

*Yawn Coffee Advent Calendar has been very kindly gifted to me*

So this year throughout December, there will be a post every 3 days on all 24 of these coffees in the calendar.

The Box
This box contains 24 sachets of different speciality coffees and a tasting guides. Each sachet contains enough ground coffee for one cup. Omni Grind coffee, which is suitable for cafetiere, filter, chemex, percolator and cold brew.
We responsibly source specially selected beans which originate from India, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Kenya, Java, Papua New Guinea, Sumatra and Brazil. We then work with local experts and lovingly roast the far travelled beans just 20 minutes from YAWN HQ.

The Advent Box also includes a handy brew guide, with more information on the coffees inside the box.

If you're as excited as I am for this advent calendar, make sure you come back in December for all of the Christmassy Coffee posts.
