Untold Coffee Box 4

Now a fair warning, this box is an absolute beauty

This box contained a hefty 6 (!!!!) coffees

4 from Girls Who Grind Coffee, and 2 from Untold

(James also really kindly sent me a sample of the Heist hot
chocolate handies (which are yum!))

Were going to start with the Girls Who Grind Coffee - simply because, I've done a whole other blog post on the 3 El Salvadors -
Read that here

I ended up doing a giveaway with the 3 El Salvadors because I didn't want them to go to waste, and I definitely couldn't get through 2 bags of each!
So they were packed up and sent to another home to be enjoyed by someone else (lucky them!!)

Guatemala

Region: San Antonio Huista, Huehuetenago Guatemala
Varietal: Pache, Bourbon, Caturra
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Cherry Pie, Vanilla Cream

This delicious little number, was super fruity, stone fruits to be specific, and hella smooth, with next to no acidity, and had really sweet, syrup-y undertones, I mean what more could you ask for? Guatemalan is definitely up there in my top 5 go to coffees, and this definitely makes the cut.

Untold Coffee

Jeremy Abadi

Region: Valle Del Cauca, Colombia
Varietal: Castillo
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Milk Chocolate, Caramel, Tangerine

As soon as I took a sip, chocolate notes hit me in the best way, it's not very often you get a coffee that has the most delicious, defining chocolate notes, but damn this is it. with a sweet after taste, this is definitely my new go to "pick me up" coffee for the afternoon.

San Luis Community Microlot

Region: Tarrazú Co-operative, San Luis, Costa Rica
Varietal: Caturra + Catuai
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Milk Chocolate, Orange

Again this coffee had a lot of chocolatey notes as well, but with loads of citrus undertones, (like a chocolate orange in coffee form!!!) it's got a slight acidity to it, which I really love in a citrus coffee because it pairs so well. It's also one of those coffees that has a taste note that I literally cant put my finger on what it is.. Anyone willing to give me sensory lessons because honestly I suck.

As usual I used the same measurements I have been for every single box whilst doing these mini reviews for the boxes

Aeropress, inverted
16g of coffee
245ml of water
30 second bloom
1 minute 30 brew time
30 second plunge

Untold Coffee Box 3

It's been a long while since I have done an Untold box blog post, number 5 will actually be arriving soon, which means we have 2 boxes to catch up on!

Exciting, as number 4 will be posted very quickly after this blog post goes live.

So lets get straight into it, and begin with box number 3.

This box contained 3 coffees - one from Untold themselves and 2 from River Coffee Roasters

So without hours of me rambling, I'm just going to jump straight into them, since it's so late and no body actually wants to read about them anymore (oops)

Like boxes 1 + 2, I'm keeping the recipe pretty consistent and using the same for all 3 coffees. All using the aeropress.
16g of coffee, 245ml of water, with a final brew time of 1 minute 45, and a bloom of 30 seconds and the plunge 30 seconds.

Untold Coffee

Rebuild Woman's Hope
Region: Idjwi Island, Lake Kivu, DR Congo
Varietal: Bourbon
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Maple Syrup, Black Cherry

Anyone who knows me will know that I am in LOVE with any Congo coffees, it's definitely been the top of my coffee choices for most of 2018, and this one definitely didn't disappoint.
One thing I love with every Congo I have tried, they're always so true to the taste notes, meaning that it comes through consistently with tastes for pretty much everyone. I love that.
It was super sweet and syrup-y, with very subtle berry undertones, it was well rounded, so freaking smooth and all around a delicious cup.

River Coffee

Alejo Castro
Region: Central Valley Region, Costa Rica
Varietal: Caturra
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Apricot, Mandarin, Caramel

I actually took this coffee to work with me /
hence the lil cute jar

This coffee was super smooth and mellow, with some defining tangy citrus flavours, it was super delicious, and I had to stop myself from drinking about 6 of these. It had a super light mouthfeel with a crisp finish from the citrus notes, yum!

Endebess Estate
Region: Northern Rift Valley, Kenya
Varietal: SL28, SL34, Batain
Process: Natural
Flavour Notes: Blackcurrant Jam, Sweet Blueberry, Red Grape Acidity

(In typical Jass style, she always misses one photo, yeah hello I'm a terrible blogger, I know)

This coffee was super, super fruity, you could definitely taste the acidity in the aftertaste, but it was pretty delicious, I love me a good fruity coffee - but I'm used to fruity coffees being quite mellow, so this was a pleasant surprise that you also had the darkness and acidity coming through.

I apparently didn't get a very good picture of when the coffees arrived in the box, and normally that would be the top photo, but I feel it just looks very crap, so if you love crappy photos you're in for a treat. I'm sure if I was even some what skilled in the photoshop area I could make it look ok, but alas, we're just stuck with a very mediocre photo

Thank you for reading if you've got this far, and again, I'm sorry its almost 2 months late!
