22 Things I've Learnt By 22 - BEDIM Day 10

*channels inner Taylor Swift*
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M FEELIN' 22

It's my birthday - and like the past 2 birthdays, my favourite post to write is my "Things I've Learnt By" - and this year is no different.

So here it is - 22 Things I've Learnt In 22 Years.

1. Never forget your worth and don't settle for anything less

2. Being dog broody IS a real thing (and damn I feel it)

3. Take care of your mental health (SERIOUSLY!!!)

4. You are the only person in control of your motivation

5. Don't be ashamed to ask for help (with anything in life!!)

6. Bubble baths can fix a LOT of things

7. You will learn a hell of a lot about yourself when you live alone

8. Learn to surround yourself with positive people

9. Life isn't worth holding grudges, have a cry and move on

10. Never stop wanting to learn - knowledge is invaluable

11. It's a good thing to have your sister as your best friend

12. If you have a good idea, get on and do it - instead of watching everyone else do it and feel like you cant anymore (cough, podcast, cough, youtube)

13. Sometimes laying on the floor and having a big cry is all you need

14. Possessions don't mean as much memories do

15. Related to 14 - Record your life through pictures and videos

16. Coffee and chats with good people does your life wonders

17. Always carry a good book everywhere (learnt this when I ripped my oil tank in my car and was stranded for 6 hours)

18. A LOT can change in a year (or even 6 months!)

19. People who have been in your life for 6 months can mean a huge amount more than people you've known for years

20. Don't take the little things for granted (I will never take for granted sitting in a coffee shop ever again)

21. Coffee is EVERYTHING

22. Know that the best is yet to come.

The Coffee Life Turns 2

Honestly, where has the time gone?

I remember starting this blog and being in a really dark place, not knowing what I wanted from this blog and just needed somewhere to escape real life. It's been a place I can freely write whatever I want whilst not caring who reads it.

It's become more than just a hobby for me, it's become a safe place, and a community builder, and I've had so many incredible opportunities and met so many incredible people through this little space on the internet.

I am thankful for every single person who takes the time to read anything I write on this blog, whether you're a regular reader or just scatter reads my posts every now and again. I am beyond thankful.

21 Things I've Learned By 21

Last year during Blogging Everyday In May, my favourite post I wrote was the 20 things I've learnt in 20 years. So I thought I would do another one this year, since I am now a year older and therefore wiser (who am I kidding though)

So here's 21 things I've learned in the 21 years of being alive.

1 - Surround yourself with people who add quality to your life, not subtract from it. Good people are hard to come by, but those who are worth it and add the quality to your life will make themselves known.

2 - Don't hurt the ones you love, just because you are hurting - I'm still working on this

3 - Get out of your comfort zone every once in a while

4 - One book can alter the entire way you live your life (if you ever need rad book suggestions drop a message to @coffee_by_josh on Instagram)

5 - Make time for exercise, no matter what. You will ALWAYS feel better after exercise

6 - Never sell yourself short - know your worth and don't settle for any less

7 - There isn't always an answer for everything

8 - Mental health is super important

9 - Along the same lines, asking for help is a good thing - I recently went back to therapy after years of putting it off because I refused to ask for help.

10 - Trust your intuition, if something doesn't feel right,  then you usually know best

11 - Life is now, and it won't wait

12 - There is so much power in a positive attitude

13 - It could always be worse, even if it doesn't feel like it

14 - Make sure you're always there for your sibling, because they're pretty great

15 - Being curious is how you figure out what you're passionate about

16 - Don't let anyone put you down for being you

17 - Don't be afraid to meet new people

18 - Don't be afraid to explore new places

19 - Have faith in the world that everything will work out

20 - You will always be your own harshest critic

21 - Life is too short for shitty coffee

If you'd like to give me some extra love, my soaps are 20% off when you use the code "BIRTHDAY"
Code available until the 15th of May

goals for being 20

since i am now a whole two decades old, it's probably time i started acting -somewhat- responsible, should have some goals and dreams blah blah blah

so here are some mini goals i am setting myself for being the big 20

- continue blogging what i love, whether that be coffee, lifestyle and all the rest in between

- road trip to new places, either alone or with friends

- travel to another country, alone, just because

- run a (half) marathon - setting the goal of half because lets be real, i'll probably need a lot more training for a full one, maybe when i'm 21

- speaking of exercise, get fully back into the gym, without excuses

- do and complete another online course

- listen to podcasts instead of music (and keep track of what podcasts i've listened too)

- write handwritten letters more

- be present with friends and family - try and rebuild the family connections i've lost through being a bit of a dick

- complete my good-reads book challenge for 2018, i was really good between January and March, but it's taken a back seat

- say yes to more opportunities

20 things i've learned by 20

holy shit, i am 20 years old.
today the lovely 10th of may, is my birthday (happy birthday to me)
i am finally two decades old (cue the quarter life existential crisis)
none the less, i've learned some things over the past two decades of being alive, and i always love reading these posts, so here are 20 (a few more than 20, because i couldn't quite condense it down) things i have learned by the age of 20

1 - life is too short for crappy coffee - seems obvious, but you'd be surprised how much i pretended to enjoy crappy chain coffee when i was younger. get yourself some speciality beans roasted to perfection and brew them yourself

2 - don't put things off for 3 years, and then complain to everyone that you "cant do it" and that you "quit" just get your shit together and do it, because you'll regret the last three years that you've been paying for something that you weren't using (oh yeah, car insurance is expensive when you're not actually using the car)

3 - not everyone thinks the same way you do - everyone has their difference in thinking, and that's ok, not everyone is going to think that this particular thing you like is amazing, likewise the other way round

4 - if an idea doesn't exist, create it

5 - your sister will forever be your best friend and free therapist, even when you don't see eye to eye (and you're being a bit of a dick), you'll always be there for each other.

6 - pinterest is without a doubt the best social media to exist, feeling shit? scroll through pinterest. feeling great? scroll through pinterest. need motivation? scroll through pinterest - you see where i'm going here

7 - you will never find happiness in other people - you've got to get your shit together and find your own happiness within yourself

8 - certain things will never be how they used to be, and that's just life

9 - be your own date - take yourself out for dinner, treat yourself to a spa date, go to the cinema, heck it's great

10 - it's perfectly fine to not know what the hell to do in this world - we were always broken kids with no plans, i saw a tweet a while back (pictured below) and i relate to it a shit ton - but great things will come

11 - drinking alcohol is over-rated - yeah it was amazing when you were 15/16 you'd bounce back like nothing had happened, and although a few drinks here and there are great, hangovers start to affect you more, and it's just really not worth it

12 - to-do lists are your best friends, i end up with about 6 different lists every single day, whether that be on paper, in my head, on my phone LISTS EVERYWHERE

13 - never put a boyfriend/girlfriend above your friends - i've done it in the past, and i've had it done to me. it's shitty and i know you're happy in your relationship
but. dont. forget. your. friends.

14 - relating to number 13 - people will come and go, you just gotta have a cry and move on

15 - also relating to 14 - it's ok to not have a lot of friends, i think its fab that i only have about 3 people that i'm close too, and a few that i talk to on the regular.

16 - online courses are your saviour - if like me you skipped college, skipped uni, its perfect, there are so many courses to choose from and normally they have some great deals for them

17 - write handwritten letters - there is nothing more beautiful and heartfelt when you know someone has taken the time out of their day to write you something, even if it's just a small 5 word letter -  something i am planning to do a lot this year (so if you receive a handwritten letter, no we haven't gone back to the 80's it just means i appreciate you)

18 - it's ok to say no to plans - if you're an ambivert like me, sometimes saying no to plans is essential to get your "recharge" time

19 - speak your mind - in moderation

20 - your work collegues are the craziest, most loving, and supportive people you will ever meet (and who else can you talk about your sex life with in the middle of the day?)

21 - act confident and no one will question it

22 - you do you, this is your story, no one elses
