Beans Coffee Box - Outpost Coffee - BEDIM Day 6

It's been a while since we've talked about Beans Coffee Club, and this is actually the last post we will see of them for a while (boooo, sad face)
However I'm sure some time in the future they will return on The Coffee Life!

In the last Beans Coffee Box, we received an Ethiopian from Outpost Coffee.

I'd never tried Outpost before so of course, I put on my research hat and got to work.

Outpost are speciality coffee roasters and explorers of exceptional tastes.

The Beans

Ethiopia
Chire Washing Station
Process: Fully Washed
Altitude: 2000MASL
Taste Notes: Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Peach

The Brew

V60
17g of Coffee
275ml of Water
30 Second Bloom with Agitation - 30g of Water
Total Brew Time 3 Minute 30 Seconds

Taste Notes - This brew has very subtle syrup-y tea notes paired with sweet peach notes. It had super floral aromas, and a citrus acidity as it cooled down.
It was a delicious morning coffee, as it gave off those light flavours that I prefer early in the morning than the heavier more chocolate notes in the afternoon.

Beans Coffee Box - Django Coffee - Ethiopia

One company that I am becoming more and more familiar with (and I ain't even mad about it) is Django Coffee.

In one of my last subscriptions to Beans Coffee Club I received a fantastic Ethiopian from Django.

Django Coffee Co. is a roasting company that has taken inspiration from Melbourne's flourishing and robust coffee scene, and to make it their mission to provide quality speciality coffee with a low environmental impact.
Sourcing their own green coffee beans from coffee farmers around the world and then roasting the beans in small batches to be able to create unique flavours.
Django Coffee is always 100% committed to providing information on the origins, the farmers, and the coffee beans journey from farm all the way to your cup.
They are a company that respects the farmers, the environment, as well as their customers.

The Beans
Tefera Kebede - Bansa Sidama, Southern Ethiopia
Process - Natural
Altitude - 2000 MASL
Taste Notes - Apricot, Tamarind, Champagne

The Brew

V60
16g of Coffee
250g of Water
30 Second Bloom - With Agitation
3 Minute 30 Second Total Brew Time

Taste - A super smooth medium bodied cup, super orange-y with a citrus smoothness. A really balanced and clean cup every time.
This was a super delicious coffee, really embodied it's taste notes, it was gorgeously citrus-y, with a slight boozy taste as it cooled down - an all around incredible cup to taste.

Django have released some stunning coffees, and this was definitely one of them! Absolutely delicious!

Beans Coffee Club - Pharmacie Roasters, Costa Rica

Since I've taken some time off, it means I have a heck of a lot of posts to catch up on - so we're going to start with a lovely Beans Coffee Club box I received back in December.

Read other Beans Coffee Club posts

Since the last post, beans have changed their packaging to be post box friendly (a HUGE bonus to any coffee subscription) and to be more recyclable materials, a win win for both!

In this box I received a lovely Costa Rican from Pharmacie Roasters - Pharmacie are a small micro-roastery in the heart of Brighton and Hove.
Pharmacie is an environmentally conscious speciality coffee roaster and coffee house. They source high grade Arabica beans ethically and roast them carefully.

The Beans
Costa Rica - San Francisco
Owner: Edgar Fallas Solis
Process: Natural
Varietal: Caturra, Catuai
Altitude: 1800MASL
Taste Notes - Sweet and juicy with notes of cranberry, raisins and raspberry jam.

Edgar Fallas Solis and his wife Ligia and son William own San Francisco, a 10-12 hectare coffee farm intercropped with avocados, citrus and banana trees. Edgar is the second generation working on this 55 year old arm originally planted with Caturra with the addition o Catuai and Catimor varietals.
Protecting the environment is important for the family. Biodynamic teechnics are used in the farm and an awareness of climate change means adapting farming techniques.
At the peak of the season, 15 people working with the family to harvest the cherries. The farm are members of the Asoproaaa Coop where microlots are processed to ensure the quality and consistency.

Brewing

V60 brew
18g of Coffee
250g of Water
30 Second Bloom with 35g of Water
Total brew time 3.30min-4 minute

I got to try Pharmacie coffee for the first time last year at Brighton Coffee Festival and LOVED it so I was super excited to try out their single origins and this Costa Rican did not disappoint. The quality of this coffee was incredible, it brewed super well whichever way (v60 or a lazy french press) it was super versatile whilst being consistent in flavours.
It had a super consistent jammy sweetness (and I love me some jam), super sweet and smooth with underlying berry notes throughout.
Even when it cooled down it didn't turn acidic, it just added to the fruitiness of the brew.
Super delicious.

Your Beans Club Box 2

It's time again for another blog post on the Your Beans Club Box - if you missed the first blog post back in November on these guys, you can read it here

If you would like to learn more information about the company, what they're about, what their aim is and what they offer, I really recommend heading to that blog post to give it a read.

The coffee I received in this box was Django Coffee Company - on this blog we've looked into Django once before on I think a Dog and Hat post. So I was excited to try it again as I thoroughly enjoyed the coffee, and I managed to speak to the lovely people at the Django stand back at Bristol Coffee Festival and they were absolutely delightful.

I love how colourful Django's packaging is - my only complaint (and this will only be me) about the packaging is the brown bag - and I will tell you why. I AM A MESSY COFFEE MAKER - I somehow always manage to spill coffee or water EVERYWHERE, and this bag really shows me up.
That is all.
(and a bloggers nightmare of a smudged date)

San Antonio - Guatemala

Huehuetenango is often referred to as "Huehue".
Wit altitudes over 2,000 metres. Huehue is the highest and driest region of Guatemala. It is only one of three regions without volcanic soil. Historically, it has been one of the more remote areas of the country and accessibility has been challenging. In the past, many farmers have used oxen or have carried their coffees on their back. Huhuetenango enjoys easy access to water sources, enabling many producers to process their coffee.

The beans

Origin - Huhuetenango
Varietal - Bourbon, Caturra
Altitude - 1432-1828 MASL
Process - Honey
Taste Notes - Plum, Peach, Grape

Brew time

V60 Brew
18g of Coffee
275ml of Water
3 Minute Total Brew Time
40ml Bloom, 30 Seconds, 10 Second Agitation

This brew came out super delicious - so fruity, so peachy, with a lovely underlying stone fruit acidity. As it cooled, you definitely get more of a grape/wine bitterness.

Beans Coffee Club Box 1

What's this? A new subscription coffee service?
I've followed Beans Coffee Club on Instagram for a while now and was intrigued about them as a company and what they do.

Funnily enough in the same week we had both emailed each other asking if we wanted to work together on something, surprisingly the answer was yes. So here is to working with another fantastic company.

So who are Beans Coffee Club?

Beans is operated by a small team of 5 people who all love coffee - we have come together because we saw an opportunity to make speciality coffee more accessible for people. Our experiences were that it wasn't easy to find new coffee roasters and when we did, it wasn't easy to know which beans we were going to enjoy - so Beans was born.
We have many years of experience within the coffee industry but our main passion has always been discovering and enjoying new coffees. Although we now have a great working relationships with some of the best coffee roasters in the country. We are still searching for and discovering new coffee roasters all the time. We are tasting new coffees every day and the ones we love will make it into our subscription offerings in the future.

Our mission is to make it easy to explore the world of speciality coffee, to discover new amazing coffee roasters and coffees and help brew the world's best coffee at home. Why take a coffee subscription with one roaster when you can have a subscription which features them all?

Keep it personal
Tell us your preferences - we feature over 150 offees from 15 of the countries best roasters - to make it easy to find coffees you'll love we match you based on your personal preferences. Simply answer a few questions to create your own bespoke subscription.
Choose your pricing - Each coffee can be a different price so to keep things simple we created two different pricing tiers - standard at £7.99 and exclusive at £9.99. Standard coffees are fantastic and versatile, featuring blends which will be liked by most. Exclusive tier coffees are a little rarer and more complex for people feeling a little more adventurous
Select your frequency - Simply choose how often you would like to receive a new coffee - weekly, fortnightly or monthly - depending on how much coffee you drink. We'll do the rest.

You'll always know when your box has arrived by the distinct sticker, and it was a super exciting day when my first box arrived.

For my first box I got sent this super delicious Kenyan from Quarter Horse

The beans
Kayoni Microlot - Kenya
Varietal - SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11, K7, Baitan
Process - Washed
Region - Kiambu
Taste Notes - Apricot, Cane Sugar Sweetness, Floral Finish

Brew time

V60 Brew
18g of Coffee
275ml of Water
3 Minute Total Brew Time
40ml Bloom, 30 Seconds, 10 Second Agitation

This brew came out super sweet and syrup-y, lots of sweet floral aromas and a smooth and balanced acidity.

Every brew that I made from this bag had very similar taste notes, which is always a bonus, I cant wait to brew this through aeropress as well, I think it will really bring out those more prominent apricot flavours.
