The Return Of Untold Coffee Box

I am super excited to do this blog post, because .... GUESS WHATS BACK?

OH YEAH ITS THE UNTOLD COFFEE SUBSCRIPTION BOX, GET EXCITED!!!

For the first box, we had two tins of the gorgeous Brazilian from producer Danilo Barbosa

While we're on the subject of tins, Untold Coffee have changed their packaging, and for the better. It not only looks incredible but does it's bit for the planet too.

Untold have also put an incredible (and inspirational) message on every tin
"Let's keep this simple. We're called Untold, and we're passionate about sourcing delicious coffee, responsibly.
Leveraging the power of social media we're maintaining friendships with farmers and co-operatives hundreds of miles away.
We've worked for one of the biggest coffee chains in the world, as well as some of the smallest, and now we're doing our own thing, striving to be better everyday."

I'm so happy that Untold Boxes are back, and I'm excited to see what coffees they come out with in the future.

So, lets dive into box number 1

Untold are doing things differently in these subscription boxes, with all their own coffee, and it now includes a super cute information leaflet.

(so freaking cute)

About this coffee - This coffee comes from Farkm Cachoeira, one of two farms owned by Danilo Barbosa.
The D. Barbosa group are a family of coffee producers, consisting of fathers, mothers, sons and in-laws, all dedicated to cultivating coffee that is truly special, in order to honour their ancestors who began this culture in 1930.

Region - Minas Gerais, Brazil
Producer - Danilo Barbosa
Varietal - Yellow Catuai
Process - Fermented Natural
Cupping Score - 83
Flavour Notes - Dark Chocolate and Sweet Red Berries

I did two brews with this coffee that really brought out the specific taste notes, both through v60

Brew Number 1
V60 Brew

18g of Coffee
280ml of Water
2 Minute 45 Second Total Brew Time
25 Second Bloom with 40ml Water

Super smooth and mellow with lots of aromatic chocolate notes, you get the more berry tones as it cools

Brew Number 2
V60 Brew
15g of Coffee
275ml of Water
2 Minute 45 Second Total Brew Time
20 Second Bloom with 40ml Water

This second brew definitely brought out the more delicate fruity tones, making it super smooth and mellow, with the subtle chocolate notes coming through at the end

Brew Number 3
Aeropress

14.5g of Coffee
1 Minute 45 Second Brew
25 Second Push
2 Minute 10 Second Total Brew Time
25 Second Bloom

I hadn't actually used my aeropress in well over a month, and I definitely forgot what an incredible cup it makes, using the aeropress brought out ALL of the chocolatey notes, made it a super bold and delicious cup.

All in all, I can't wait to see what Untold Coffee has up their sleeves in regards to the upcoming subscription boxes - I for one, am super excited

Untold Coffee Box 9 + A Special Goodbye

This blog post is going to be extra special, not just because it's an Untold Coffee Box post (which automatically makes it super special) but we're actually saying goodbye to the box after 9 whole months (I'm not crying, you are)

Bigger and better things are on the horizon for Untold, and I can't wait to see how the company blossoms even more in 2019.

We have two gorgeous coffees in the box this month, both by Untold.

Chocolate Orange and Jasmine
San Salvador, El Salvador
Varietal - Bourbon
Process - Washed
Flavour Notes - Milk Chocolate, Orange, Jasmine

V60 Brew
20g Coffee
300ml Water
3 Minute Total Brew Time (30 Second Bloom)

This coffee had a super citrus-y acidity, full chocolate body and a milk chocolatey finish to it, super delicious!
More floral-y tones as it cools down.
And can we just appreciate the art-work for a second? Phoar, incredible

Jeremy Abadi
Valle Del Cauca, Colombia
Varietal - Castillo
Process - Washed
Flavour Notes - Milk Chocolate, Tangerine

V60 Brew
20g Coffee
300ml Water
3 Minute Total Brew Time (30 Second Bloom)

Suuuuperrrr chocolatey!!! Super floral and aromatic with slightly sour citrus notes when cooled down. Super delicious (I'll take 7 bags of this one please)
You can pre-order this coffee on the Untold website now (you wont regret it!!)

What I love about both of these coffees is that although they have very similar taste notes, it's incredible how different they taste, and how complex both of their flavours are compared to each other.

As much as I am sad to see the Untold Coffee Club Box go, I'm more excited to see what Untold have up their sleeve and what they're planning next.

Currently on their website they have 4(!!!!!) coffee's that you can pre-order now!!

I'm going to miss typing up my monthly boxes, but I'm sure you'll be seeing Untold very regularly on my blog still!

Untold Coffee Box 8

We're so close to being in double digits for Untold Coffee Box's now, and if that doesn't prove commitment and loyalty to coffee (and subscription boxes) I don't know what does.

This is also a very special box too, it contained the last ever outside company Untold will be using for their subscription boxes, and I am super excited to be having Untold in my cupboard every month, because although I love, love, love trying new things, I also love familiarity, and now that I've started my subscription to One Click, it's nice to have some familiar feels in regards to packaging (ooh, talking of... Look out for Untold's new super freaking cool packaging in a couple of posts time!!)

This box, we had 2 gorgeous coffees from Heart and Graft, which like many coffee's in the past, have been on my to try list for 2019.

First up, Chateau 76
Ethiopia Kochere Debo
Region - Kochere
Variety - Locally Selected
Altitude - 1900-2100masl
Process - Washed
Taste Notes - Blackcurrant Jam, Cassis, Blackcurrant Leaf

Aeropress - 16g - 2 minute 45 second brew time - 30 second bloom - 30 second push

Taste Notes - Super, super sweet, curranty. Next to no acidity, super smooth.

V60 - 19g - 275ml - 3 minute 30 second total brew time - 30 second bloom

Taste Notes - Super smooth, curranty, syrup-y and light to drink. A slight fruity acidity as it cools

Overall, no matter how this coffee is brewed it comes out deliciously sweet, deliciously curranty and makes for the perfect morning coffee when you don't want to be smacked in the face by acidity.

Miriam Perez
Honduras Microlot
Farm - Clave De Sol, Las Tres Marias Lot
Variety - Icatu, Catuai
Altitude - 1300-1560masl
Process - Natural
Taste Notes - Mulled wine, rum & raisin, apricot

V60 - 19g - 275ml - 3 minute 30 second total brew time - 30 second bloom

Taste Notes -  Super boozy, with a sweet wine-y acidity (anything that resembles wine is a WINNER hands down) a stone-fruity aftertaste. Super yummy, and out of the two, I'd definitely choose this one, and can we just appreciate the packaging (for both!!!)

This was such an amazing box to finish outside coffee's from Untold Sub Box, and I am so pleased I got to try them!
Have you tried Heart and Graft? What did you think?

Untold Coffee Box 6

That's right, it's that time of the month where we talk about the Untold Coffee Monthly Subscription, and after my last posts, I've had a few messages asking if I am sponsored, or sent these boxes every month to review on here. To clear up - The answer is no, I just love the idea of subscription boxes, and sharing them and what I think of them - and although I have got a few posts coming up with coffee's that I have been sent/given, I will always write if I have been gifted the coffee, but with the Untold Coffee box, I pay every month to have this delicious box delivered to my door.

Now that long intro is done, we can get into the Coffee Box.

Box number 6 contained 3 coffees:
2 x 200g bags from Untold Coffee Roasters
1 x 100g bag from River Coffee Roasters

As usual I used the same recipes for all 3 brews

23g of coffee
300g of water at 90 degrees
Ratio of 1:13
30 second bloom
Total brew time 3 minutes

The first coffee I tried was the River Coffee Ethiopian

Uraga Samii Washing Station
Guji Region Ethiopia
Varietal - Heirloom
Process - Washed
Flavours - Earl Grey, Peach, Red Grape

Aromas - Tea, bergamot tones, hints of fruit

Tastes - Grape acidity, hints of bergamot, and fruity flavour left on tongue
Tastes sort of like a light syrup-y tea, really delicious

The second coffee obviously from Untold was the Brazilian

Region - Illcnea, Sul De Minas, Brazil
Varietal - Yellow Catuai
Process - Natural
Flavours - Strawberries, Cream and Milk Chocolate

(will there ever be an Untold Coffee blog post without me missing a photo? no one knows)

Tastes - Deep chocolate notes, smooth and sweet with no bitterness and very low acidity level.
More subtle berry hints as it cools down, very delicious smooth coffee

The last coffee from the box was the Untold Rwandan

Region - Cyarumbo Estate, Huye District, Rwanda
Varietal - Bourbon
Process - Washed
Flavours - Caramel, Lemongrass, Vanilla, Grapefruit Acidity

Aromas - Hints of black tea aromas

Tastes - Lots of fruity acidity, very citrus-y
Syrup like undertones and becomes more vanilla as cools, with no lingering acidity, another amazing coffee

I know this is slightly behind schedule seeing as I've got one more untold box post to come out before the next one arrives (I'm trying my hardest!!!) but none the less I hope this was an interesting read.

Untold Coffee Box 4

Now a fair warning, this box is an absolute beauty

This box contained a hefty 6 (!!!!) coffees

4 from Girls Who Grind Coffee, and 2 from Untold

(James also really kindly sent me a sample of the Heist hot
chocolate handies (which are yum!))

Were going to start with the Girls Who Grind Coffee - simply because, I've done a whole other blog post on the 3 El Salvadors -
Read that here

I ended up doing a giveaway with the 3 El Salvadors because I didn't want them to go to waste, and I definitely couldn't get through 2 bags of each!
So they were packed up and sent to another home to be enjoyed by someone else (lucky them!!)

Guatemala

Region: San Antonio Huista, Huehuetenago Guatemala
Varietal: Pache, Bourbon, Caturra
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Cherry Pie, Vanilla Cream

This delicious little number, was super fruity, stone fruits to be specific, and hella smooth, with next to no acidity, and had really sweet, syrup-y undertones, I mean what more could you ask for? Guatemalan is definitely up there in my top 5 go to coffees, and this definitely makes the cut.

Untold Coffee

Jeremy Abadi

Region: Valle Del Cauca, Colombia
Varietal: Castillo
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Milk Chocolate, Caramel, Tangerine

As soon as I took a sip, chocolate notes hit me in the best way, it's not very often you get a coffee that has the most delicious, defining chocolate notes, but damn this is it. with a sweet after taste, this is definitely my new go to "pick me up" coffee for the afternoon.

San Luis Community Microlot

Region: Tarrazú Co-operative, San Luis, Costa Rica
Varietal: Caturra + Catuai
Process: Washed
Flavour Notes: Milk Chocolate, Orange

Again this coffee had a lot of chocolatey notes as well, but with loads of citrus undertones, (like a chocolate orange in coffee form!!!) it's got a slight acidity to it, which I really love in a citrus coffee because it pairs so well. It's also one of those coffees that has a taste note that I literally cant put my finger on what it is.. Anyone willing to give me sensory lessons because honestly I suck.

As usual I used the same measurements I have been for every single box whilst doing these mini reviews for the boxes

Aeropress, inverted
16g of coffee
245ml of water
30 second bloom
1 minute 30 brew time
30 second plunge
