One Click Coffee Box 10 + 11

I've decided that since I'm so behind on blog posts (especially subscription boxes!!) I'm going to conjoin a few together (genius, I'm not sure why I didn't think of it sooner!)

Today we're focusing on the lovely One Click Box

Box 10 was their Christmas special box, including darkwoods coffee and Lost Horizons

We'll start with darkwoods coffee

Dark Woods Coffee is an adventurous coffee roaster, Barista school, and pop-up café nestled on the edge of Marsden village in the West Yorkshire Pennines. We roast our coffee by hand on a 1950’s Probat drum roaster in a beautifully refurbished Victorian textile mill beside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and River Colne. The dramatic, windswept valley inspires the mood and flavours of our exceptional seasonal coffees.
Many of the coffees come to their attention because of Damian’s extensive travels over the years. Making friends and colleagues along the way, getting to know some of the best farms the coffee world has to offer. Not just for the quality of their beans but the professional ways in which they are managed, care for the environment and the people they work with.

The Beans

Colombia - Finca Esperanza

single Estate Coffee
Process - Washed
100% Pink Bourbon
altitude - 1600Masl
Taste Notes - Pomelo (sweet grapefruit), Lime, Cinder Toffee

The Brew
V60
16g of Coffee
250ml of Water
30 second bloom with 35ml of water
slight agitation
3 minute 30 second total brew time

Taste Notes

super fudgey aromas, with a toffee/dark brown sugar first taste. some really subtle citrus notes, with it getting more citrus acidity as it fully cooled.
I had to really play around with the recipes I used here, but settled on 16g of coffee to bring out the more subtle notes as every other way it was brewed it came out relatively dark.

Lost Horizons Coffee

Lost Horizon Coffee are a micro-batch roastery based in Bristol.
Lost Horizon’s founder, Kit, fell in love with roasting coffee whilst working as an engineer many moons ago. Since then, his passion and desire to create fantastic coffee hasn’t wavered.
Motivated by sustainable living (and caffeine), he particularly enjoys tinkering with machinery, staring at roast graphs, and drinking lots of coffee.

The Beans

Nyabihu, Rwanda
shyira Washing station
12 Hour Fermentation
Varietal - Red Bourbon
Process - Washed
Taste Notes - stewed fruits, Christmas pudding, Caramel

The Brew
V60
16g of Coffee
250ml of Water

Taste Notes

This coffee had some super sweet and fruity aromas, however, this wasn't to my taste - I tried brewing it a lot of ways, different recipes etc, but this coffee was slightly too dark for me. Not every coffee is for everyone!

Box Number 11

Box number 11 from One Click included Lomond Coffee and Carringtons Coffee Co and a delicious brownie from Kake bakery (that was consumed in an estimate of 17 seconds)

a more than accurate representation of how I felt after every bite

starting off with Carringtons

Carringtons are a small-batch specialty coffee roasters based at Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington, Cheshire.
They champion single-estate farms in particular from Colombia where they have a special interest and personal connection.

The Beans
single Estate Colombian Coffee
Farm - Finca Las Mercedes
Region - antioquia
altitude - 1750-2050M
Varietal - Colombia, Caturra, Castillo
Process - Washed

The Brew
V60
16g of Coffee
250ml of Water
30 second bloom with 35ml of water
slight agitation
3 minute 30 second total brew time

Taste Notes

I found this coffee to be a bit too darkly roasted for my personal taste, however I can definitely see how it appeals to people who like a fuller and darker roast, and I do love the ethos of Carringtons as a company being so passionate about being so close and connected with farms.
