Today's guest on Interviewing The Coffee Interview is Brian from BriansCoffeeSpot
How are you?
I'm Fine. A little stressed in the run up to Christmas/year-end, but there's nothing new in that.
What do you do for a living?
I write technical documentation in the payments industry (think credit cards).
In terms of The Coffee Industry, how long have you been involved and what do you do?
I've been writing my blog, Brian's Coffee Spot, since September 2012.
How has Coronavirus affected you during 2020?
Other than travel, the pandemic hasn't affected my work since I've always worked remotely. On the other hand, last year I attended something like 15 week long meetings in various locations around the world, so in that sense, it's been a huge change. I was actually in Chicago in March for a meeting when everything was turned on it's head. The Governor of Illinois closed all restaurants, bars and cafes on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, I was on my way home!
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the industry this year?
My only challenge is working out what to write about when I couldn't write about coffee shops. Compared to what others have been going through, it's nothing to complain about.
How have you felt about The Coffee Industry this year?
Worried. Roasters are, by and large, not too badly affected, but I feel for anyone who owns a coffee shop. I'm impressed with the resilience of the industry: to be honest, I feared a lot more businesses would go under.
What is something you have missed in The Coffee Industry in 2020?
Visiting coffee shops!
How has Coronavirus/Lockdown affected your Mental Health?
I've been fine. I'm an introvert at heart!
What are you looking forward to in 2021?
Getting back to visiting coffee shops around the world (once it's safe to do so)
